The Toyota GR Cup Series kicked off the weekend with two practice sessions on Friday, August 18 around the 4.025-mile, 14-turn road course of Road America. Tyler Gonzalez (Copeland Motorsports) topped the charts in the first practice while Gresham Wagner (TechSport Racing) held the top spot in second practice.
PRACTICE 1 | RESULTS
Gonzalez laid down a lap time of 2:30.741 in the opening practice, just edging out Westin Workman (Smooge Racing) who is making his GR Cup Series debut with a time of 2:30.783. Justin Piscitell (McCumbee McAleer Racing), Spike Kohlbecker (TechSport Racing), and Will Robusto (Smooge Racing) rounded out the top-five finishers.
PRACTICE 2 | RESULTS
After finishing the opening practice in P13, Wagner found speed in the second session and topped the charts with a time of 2:30.585. Wagner’s TechSport Racing teammate Kohlbecker finished runner-up in second practice followed by Workman, Gonzalez, and Piscitell to round out the top-five.
What’s next?
Saturday will feature the first race of the weekend with qualifying slated for 9:55 AM CT followed by racing action starting at 1:55 PM CT. Tomorrow’s race can be streamed live on grcup.com and the GT World YouTube page. Fans can also watch via Twitch by joining Ash Vandelay on the SRO Motorsports channel.
