The Toyota GR Cup Series has a quick turnaround as drivers and teams shift their focus from the Music City GP to Road America for Round 9 and 10 of the inaugural season. 29 drivers are slated to take on the long 4.025-mile, 14-turn road course. Corey Heim (Nitro Motorsports) and Kevin Foster (OpenRoad Racing) are set to make their GR Cup Series debut this weekend at Road America.
Tyler Gonzalez (Copeland Motorsports) claimed his fourth checkered flag of the year at the last event in Nashville, Tennessee. Spike Kohlbecker (TechSport Racing) and Aidan Yoder (Precision Racing LA) also joined Gonzalez on the podium.
What to Expect
The GR Cup Series is back to its regularly scheduled programming with two test sessions on Thursday, followed by two practice sessions officially kicking off the weekend on Friday, August 18. Saturday will feature Race 1 qualifying at 9:55 AM CT followed by the green flag for Race 1 at 1:55 PM CT. Sunday will get started earlier in the day with qualifying slated for 8:05 AM CT and racing action at 12:15 PM CT.
Both races are streamed live on grcup.com and the GT World YouTube page. Fans can also catch all the racing action by joining Ash Vandelay on Twitch by following the SRO Motorsports channel. Vandelay hosts six-hour programs on Saturday and Sunday, where she is joined by drivers to chat with fans and providing insight into that day’s races.
Parade / Driver Autographs
The SRO will be hosting a parade in downtown Elkhart Lake on Thursday, August 17 from 5:30-7:30 PM CT. Drivers will make their way down WI-67 and loop around down near Elkhart Lake, allowing fans to get an up-close look at their GR86 Cup cars.
Fans will have an opportunity to meet all the GR Cup Series drivers on Sunday, August 20 during a 30-minute autograph hosted at a location to be determined. The autograph session will take place from 10:30 AM – 11 AM CT with event posters available to sign.
