Practice Sessions Set the Scene for Exciting Weekend at VIR

The GR Cup Series kicked off the weekend with two practice sessions on Friday around the famed 3.27-mile 17-turn road course of Virginia International Raceway (VIR). 

PRACTICE 1 | RESULTS

After picking up his first win of the 2023 GR Cup Series season at Circuit of the Americas, Gresham Wagner of TechSport Racing continues to top the charts and led all drivers in the first practice session of the weekend with a time of 2:06.927. Making his GR Cup Series debut, Will Robusto of Smooge Racing quickly adapted and finished second in the opening practice with a time of 2:07.188. Justin Piscitell (McCumbee McAleer Racing), Spike Kohlbecker (TechSport Racing) and Tyler Gonzalez (Copeland Motorsports) rounded out the top-five.

PRACTICE 2 | RESULTS

Wagner continued to pace the field as he sat at the top of the leaderboard at the end of second practice with a time of 2:06.224. Wagner’s TechSport Racing teammate, Spike Kohlbecker, finished second on the board with a time of 2:07.106. Piscitell, Gonzalez, and Robusto rounded out the top-five in second practice.

What’s next?

Saturday will feature race one of two at VIR with a qualifying session starting things off at 9:50 AM ET. The drop of the green flag for Race 1 is at 1:55 PM ET and you can catch all of the action on both grcup.com and the GT World Challenge YouTube page.
