Fletcher Sweeps GR Cup Weekend at Road America

Max Schweid earned the Continental Tire Pole Award for Race 2 at Road America, improving six positions from his starting spot in Saturday’s opening race. Race 1 winner Jeremy Fletcher started alongside Schweid on the front row, with Schweid jumping out to an early lead in his No. 98 Toyota GR86.

Fletcher moved past Schweid for the lead on Lap 8 after Schweid received a warning for blocking with 24 minutes remaining. Shortly after the lead change, championship leader Spike Kohlbecker suffered a mechanical issue while working his way through the field, forcing him to retire early and bringing out a full-course caution with 15 minutes remaining.

Ethan Goulart, Niko Colby, Ethan Ayars, and Malbec Ramos all took advantage of the full-course caution to battle for positions inside the top five. Goulart briefly overtook Schweid for the final podium position before the No. 98 regained third place.

With time winding down, Legends Cup drivers Rutledge Wood and Tom Rudnai were involved in a late-race incident, ending the race behind the safety car and under full-course caution for the second consecutive day.

Fletcher secured his second victory of the weekend, finishing ahead of Parker DeLong, who made a late-race charge to finish second. Schweid finished third, while Goulart and Colby, who matched his career-best GR Cup finish, rounded out the top five.

Patrick Brunson also swept the weekend at Road America in the WWEX Group Legends Cup, earning his third consecutive victory and sixth of the season. Alcyr Araujo finished runner-up for the second consecutive day, while Tom Rudnai rounded out the Legends Cup podium.

Fletcher’s fourth career GR Cup victory marked his 10th career podium finish. DeLong’s runner-up finish was his third podium in the past four races, while Schweid rounded out the top three with his sixth career GR Cup podium.
