After two test sessions on Thursday, the GR Cup Series officially kicked off the weekend at Circuit of the Americas with two 30-minute practice sessions on Friday. 31 drivers hit the 3.426-mile, 20-turn road course to get their Toyota GR86’s dialed in ahead of the weekend.
PRACTICE 1 | RESULTS
Tyler Gonzalez picked up where he left off at Sonoma (Ca.) Raceway and put the No. 57 Copeland Motorsports machine at the top of the board in the opening practice session with a best lap of 2:29.230. Justin Piscitell of McCumbee McAleer Racing finished the first 30 minutes of practice in second with a best lap of 2:29.582. Jesse Love Jr., Austin Dodge, and Mark Pombo rounded out the top-five finishers.
PRACTICE 2 | RESULTS
Gresham Wagner and the No. 5 TechSport Racing team topped the charts in the second practice with a time of 2:29.773, improving from 17th in first practice. Tyler Gonzalez continued to show speed as he was second on the pylon with a time of 2:29.923. Will Rodgers, Drake Kemper, and Austin Dodge each finished the 30-minute session in the top-five.
