After a thrilling opening weekend at Sonoma (Ca.) Raceway, the GR Cup Series is back on the road to Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas. The 3.426-mile, 20-turn road course sits just 30 minutes from the heart of downtown Austin and is home to some of the largest motorsports events in the world including Formula One and NASCAR.
What to Expect
31 cars are set to hit the track next weekend at COTA as racing action officially kicks off on Friday, May 19 with two practice sessions. Saturday will feature Race One qualifying in the morning followed by the drop of the green flag at 2:55 p.m. ET. The final race of the weekend will go green at 1:15 p.m. ET on Sunday, May 21. Each race is a timed event and lasts 45 minutes from the green flag to checkered flag.
All race sessions are streamed live on either grcup.com or the GT World YouTube page. You can also catch all the racing action by joining Ash Vandelay on Twitch by following the SROMotorsports channel. Vandelay hosts six-hour programs Saturday and Sunday, where she is joined by drivers while chatting with fans and giving an interesting insight into that day’s races.
Appearances
Faye Hadley, also known as ‘Pistons and Pixie Dust’ on social media, will be attending COTA with the Toyota GR Cup Series this weekend. Faye is an ASE Master Certified Automotive Technician, Co-Host of MotorTrend’s All Girls Garage, and dedicated Toyota GR Supra Enthusiast with more than a decade of experience in the automotive industry. She will be hosting an appearance in the Toyota hospitality tent from 11 a.m. – 12 p.m. on Saturday, May 20.
The Toyota GR Cup will also host an autograph session with all the drivers on Sunday, May 21 at 10:30 a.m. CT prior to Race Two. Stay tuned on social media for details regarding the location of the autograph session.
