Jeremy Fletcher swept the Continental Tire Pole Awards at the Arlington Grand Prix, leading the field to green early Sunday morning. Shortly after the start, Fletcher dropped back to fifth as Spike Kohlbecker took control of the race lead. Just as Kohlbecker began to settle in out front, a full-course yellow was called for the No. 51 of Massimo Sunseri.
Following the restart, Will Robusto took over the lead for the first time this season as Fletcher worked his way back through the field. Fletcher ultimately regained the lead just before the safety car was deployed for another full-course yellow.
When racing resumed with just over 10 minutes remaining, Fletcher and Kohlbecker went back and forth for the lead. Fletcher held on to take the checkered flag as the clock expired, securing his first career GR Cup Series victory.
Podium
Fletcher’s first career win marked his fourth trip to the podium in the GR Cup Series. Kohlbecker finished runner-up to record his 21st career podium finish, moving him to third on the all-time podium list. In third, Will Robusto secured his sixth career podium finish.
WWEX Group Legends Cup
Patrick Brunson of Eagles Canyon Racing swept the WWEX Group Legends Cup races in Arlington, picking up his second career win. Joining Brunson on the podium were teammate Jason Kos and Alcyr Araujo of BSI Racing.
Race Awards
Fastest Lap: Kohlbecker set the fastest lap in both races at the Arlington GP, with a time of 2:06.297 in Race 2.
Hard Charger: BSI Racing’s Amilio DiLauro earned the Hard Charger Award after gaining seven positions to finish 12th.
Endava Highest Finishing Female: Rafa Racing’s Maite Caceres swept the Endava Highest Finishing Female Award with a 22nd-place finish.
WWEX Group Highest Finishing Legend: With his second straight top-15 finish, Brunson earned the WWEX Group Highest Finishing Legend honors.
What’s Next
The Toyota GR Cup Series returns to action in just 10 days as the SRO calendar continues at Sonoma Raceway. Teams will hit the track on Thursday, March 26, for a test session before racing begins throughout the weekend. Full event details can be found here.
