Uruguayan racing driver Maite Cáceres closed the 2026 Toyota GR Cup North America season at Indianapolis Motor Speedway by earning the Endava Highest Finishing Female award in Race 1 on Saturday, October 10, which came with a $5,000 prize. It was her seventh Highest Finishing Female honor of the season.
Driving the #6 Toyota GR86 for Sanders Motorsport/MMR for the first time, Cáceres finished 18th in both of the weekend’s races on the Indianapolis road course, against a field of nearly 30 cars. In Sunday’s Race 2, she crossed the line in a closely packed group, just 6.4 seconds behind the race winner.
“I’m so happy to be competing in this championship at Indianapolis and to finish on the podium as the top female driver,” said Cáceres. “But there’s more to come, so stay tuned!”
The Indianapolis result caps Cáceres’ first Toyota GR Cup season. She raced with RAFA Racing Team for most of the year before joining Sanders Motorsport/MMR for the finale. Her season included a sweep of both Top Female Finisher awards at the season-opening Arlington street circuit, plus a recovery drive at Circuit of the Americas, where she took the award in Race 2 after a fuel-pump issue ended her opening race.
Cáceres came to sports cars from single-seaters. She represented Campos Racing in the inaugural F1 Academy season in 2023 and finished third in the 2024 Ligier JS F4 Series championship with five podiums. Earlier in 2026, she won a Formula FARA race at Homestead-Miami Speedway on International Women’s Day.
As a Uruguayan woman competing at the top of North American grassroots sports car racing, Cáceres has become a visible example for young women, and for Latin American fans, of what a career in motorsport can look like.
