Coming fresh off of a NASA Championship, Lucas Racing launches their new Toyota Gazoo Racing GR Cup program with SRO America. They will be running a one-car team to start the season and are striving to show what a grassroots racing team can do in the big leagues.
Lucas Weisenberg will be piloting the #46 GR Cup car and has shown his talents through NASA at both the regional and national level. In 2022 Lucas had four 3rd place finishes, five 2nd place finishes, and eighteen 1st place finishes. This would lead Lucas to the SoCal Spec E46 Championship with a lead of over 250 points.
The team will be showing off a tribute livery honoring the late greats Dennis Aase and Chris Cord in the classic TRD tri-color livery as seen on the 1988 Toyota Celica driven by the legends themselves at Sonoma (pictured below).
“It is an honor to be able to run this livery as the team has history dating back 30+ years with Chris and Dennis Aase of Aasco. The exceptional past of the crewmembers and connections with Aasco makes this a remarkably special livery to reveal at the same track where they ran 35 years ago, also in a Toyota!” Lucas Racing states.
“Chris Emery of The Racers Safety Source has been a great help designing everything for the team including the tribute livery. Chris has known Dennis and Chris Cord personally since he was a young kid making this even more exceptional,” says Lucas. They can be found at www.theracerssafetysource.com
Lucas Racing showed great pace from the start of the event as they were consistently in the top 3 drivers in testing, even topping the leaderboards in the final test session. Lucas Weisenberg was able to start Saturday's race from the second row and finish in 4th. In Sunday's race, Lucas was able to secure a 5th place finish. Being in the Top 5 the first weekend in SRO shows that they will be in the hunt the whole season.
The team is ecstatic to be able to run in the first year of the GR Cup series with thanks to Lucas Racing’s sponsors Kyocera, OfficeTek USA, and 360Dtii, in such great style to start off the year.
