Wagner, Workman, Weisenberg Claim Podium at Sonoma

Westin Workman (Copeland Motorsports) earned his second straight Continental Tire Pole Award on Sunday as he and his teammate, Gresham Wagner, lined up on the front row for Sunday’s race. As the field took the green flag, the leaders were two-by-two as Lucas Weisenberg (Lucas Racing) and Spike Kohlbecker (TechSport Racing) were battling for the third position.

The first 15 minutes of racing action stayed green as the field sorted out before the yellow flag came out for a full course yellow due to an incident between Devin Anderson (TechSport Racing) and Jade Avedisian (Nitro Motorsports). As the safety car pulled back down pit road, there was 22 minutes of racing left while Weisenberg and Kohlbecker went door to door for the third position. The two drivers tangled and opened the door for Jaxon Bell (Copeland Motorsports) to take over the final podium spot with 20 minutes remaining.

Weisenberg and Kohlbecker were able to track down and get past the #99 of Bell while a 0.3 second gap separated Workman and Wagner for the lead. Wagner peeked to the inside of Workman in Turn 4 for the lead before Workman was able to close the door with six minutes left. Wagner made another attempt to get past Workman and was successful with three minutes remaining on the clock. Despite a strong run from Workman and Weisenberg, Wagner was able to hold on for the win and capture his second straight win at Sonoma.

Gresham Wagner tallied his second win of the year, and fifth career GR Cup Series win while Workman earned his third career podium finish. Weisenberg’s third place finish was his second career podium finish.
