Robusto Captures First Career GR Cup Win at Sonoma

Will Robusto of RVA Graphics Motorsports by Speed Syndicate started the day by earning his first Continental Tire Pole Award while navigating wet weather conditions. He led the field to green alongside the No. 98 of Max Schweid. On the opening lap, the No. 55 of Spike Kohlbecker briefly slid off the track before regaining momentum and starting his charge back toward the front of the field.

Ten minutes into the race, Copeland Motorsports driver Jaxon Bell moved into second place behind Robusto, while battles ensued throughout the field—Kohlbecker and Lucas Weisenberg fought for sixth, while Casey Mashore and Miles Hewitt battled for 10th. As Kohlbecker and Weisenberg raced side by side, Weisenberg’s No. 46 machine went wide on the exit of Turn 7A and got stuck in the gravel, bringing out a full-course yellow with 32 minutes remaining.

The four-minute caution brought the field back together as the No. 71 of Christian Weir and the No. 78 of Ethan Ayars battled for the final podium position, with Kohlbecker closing in. After just seven minutes of racing, the safety car was deployed for another full-course yellow—this time for Beltre Curtis and John Lennon spinning out on track. As the field returned to green, Kohlbecker found himself in a three-way battle for fifth with Mashore and Ethan Goulart. However, Goulart went wide on the exit of Turn 4, opening the door for Kohlbecker to retain his position.

Robusto and Bell raced nose-to-tail in the closing laps, while the battle for the final podium spot intensified between Weir and Ayars. On the final lap, Ayars collided with Weir’s No. 71 in the chicane at Turn 9, sending the No. 78 around and collecting John Dean in the process. The contact initially allowed Weir to claim the final podium spot, but a 50-second time penalty dropped him down the leaderboard, promoting Westin Workman to third place.

Robusto managed to pull away and take the checkered flag, securing his first career GR Cup Series win and the first victory for RVA Graphics Motorsports by Speed Syndicate.

Robusto returned to the podium for the second time in his GR Cup career, marking his first podium finish since VIRginia International Raceway in 2023. Bell secured second place, earning his 10th career GR Cup podium, while Workman’s third place finish is his 14th career podium result.
